1. WHY SAVU SOUTH ALOR RESORT

SAVU South Alor is a truly sustainable eco resort involved in the development of conservation programs of the local marine life, while providing a high level of comfort to guests.

Savu South Alor sits alongshore southwest of Alor Island in Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia, approximately 1 hour flight from Bali. The Alor Archipelago is known for its rich bio-diversity in corals, marine life and topography, while the Savu Sea, lying to the south of the island, is known as a main migration corridor for multiple species of whales and dolphins. The land base of the resort is set on a sunset facing white sand beach over 1 km long with the backdrop of a varied topography of grass hills and volcanic rock cliffs.

The resort is located inside the Pantar Strait Marine Protected Area and in view distance to the Savu Sea National Marine Park which is home to 21 cetacean species including the rare blue whale, sperm whale and multiple dolphin species. Within the Coral Triangle, SAVU’s scuba diving and snorkeling sites are some of the most diverse in the world with colorful and healthy untouched reefs, exhilarating big fish sites, stunning macro subjects and black sand bays for muck lovers.

2. ACCOMMODATIONS & FACILITIES

Guest accommodation is provided in 7 spacious and private rooms all featuring natural and traditional design elements, large private garden areas and panoramic views of the Savu Sea. The 5 beach cottages are located at the swimming beach to the south of the central guest area, while the 2 cliff villas are perched on top of the elevated bluff to the north. The resort is fully solar-powered and has a large organic food farm.

A long wooden dock with floating platform to adjust to the tides provides guests with ease when disembarking for arrival and departure transfers, and when they participate in scuba diving, snorkeling and whale & dolphin watching trips by boat.  The Gear Shack sits at the base of the cliff on a platform connected to the dock. There is a seating area, individual storage for snorkel and dive equipment, and rinse, soak and drying stations.

Guest dive equipment, such as BCDs and regulators, are rinsed, hung to dry and stored by our staff at the Dive Centre, located at the southern end of the property. Tanks are also filled here, hence not within earshot of the guest area. Dive equipment is set up every morning by our staff, while guests simply need to point out their small equipment like fins and masks at the Gear Shack by the pier before boarding the dive and snorkel vessels.

5. HOW TO GET THERE

SAVU South Alor is located on Alor Island which is part of Nusa Tenggara. The international gateways of Jakarta (JKT), Surabaya (SUB) or Denpasar (DPS) provide the best access points to our province of East Nusa Tenggara, and guest travelling to Alor normally will make an overnight stop there prior to travelling onwards. We offer our costumers a complimentary overnight stop and airport transfers. On request we can arrange your domestic flights in Indonesia. Follow the link practical information: how to get to Alor.

Airport to resort transfers are organized by the resort and exclusive the accommodation package price. Due to the remote location of Savu South Alor on the southern section of the island, airport transfers are by combination of car and boat. There is no road access to the resort. We pick our guests up from Mali Airport of Alor each Saturday afternoon by car to be met by our catamaran and transported to the resort. The car and boat ride are both approximately 45 minutes. Restroom and beverages are available on our catamaran, with guests having a choice in comfortable shaded seating or sunny area seating to relax and enjoy the scenic final leg of their journey.

Returns to the airport are available every Thursday and Saturday departing the resort to meet the morning flight from Alor. Transfers on other days or times are subject to availability and additional fee. Please contact us for a private transfer quote. Follow the link practical information: diving season in Alor.

6. BEST SEASON TO TRAVEL

Alor belongs to the semi-arid south eastern region of Indonesia, where average air temperatures range from a minimum of 22°C/72°F at night to a maximum of 32°C/90°F mid-day. Weather during the resort open season is dry and sunny with low chances of rain in shoulder season and almost zero chance of rain in mid-season.

Rainfall and small sea storms/squalls are usually limited to the area’s short rainy season which falls from December to March. As the resort is in a remote location and guests often travel quite far to reach us, we do not open during the rainy season months so that we can show our guests only the best that Alor and the Savu Sea have to offer with only the most favorable weather and sea conditions.

Accordingly, Savu South Alor is open to guests from late March – early December each year during the dry season.
