The Papuan style bungalow on stilts above the sea

The 128sqm bungalows have enough room for everything: 48sqm the bedroom, 24sqm the deck, and the open air bathroom 44sqm. The bungalows, built on stilts in authentic Papuan style, are located on the Western side of the island along the coconut palm beach. They are generously sized and offer a unique feeling of open space. The design is based on tried and tested traditional Papuan building methods, which guarantee a pleasant interior climate.

On the huge terrace deck: sun loungers, beanbags, a hammock and steps into the water.

Raja 4 Diver Resort Facilities

An overwater restaurant, dive center, camera room, lounge, main jetty and pier complete the facilities at Raja 4 Divers Resort. The resort facilities have been built by divers, thinking in divers and, of course, in their main interest: the underwater photography.

The restaurant serves a delicious cuisine fusing local and international dishes, emphasizing on fresh produce and local flavours. The bar and the ‘sunset lounge’ are the place to meet and share the adventures of the day while enjoying a cold drink.

Dive Center Facilities

The dive centre is managed by a professional PADI instructor, backed up by valuable local knowledge and experienced dive guides. While the dive centre is situated in the main building at the beginning of the jetty, the wet and dry storage areas are conveniently located at the end of the jetty where dive briefings are held. It is also the departing point to board the boats or dive the house reef.

Limited satellite wifi internet and Nitrox are offered free of charge. Rental gear is available, as well as a library of marine reference guides. For maximum convenience, the divers’ personal diving gear is stored at the end of the jetty for the duration of the trip, where dive briefings are held and the dive boats are docked.

Dive Service

Raja4Divers offers unlimited diving – up to three guided boat dives daily plus a night dive and unlimited diving at the house reef. The use of Nitrox 32 is encouraged and offered free of charge to certified Enriched Air Divers. In order to become Nitrox certified, ask about completing the PADI Enriched Air Specialty course during your trip. Other courses are available on request.

The three dive boats, Pef II, Pef III and Pef IV, are equipped with built-in sun protection, and are powered by twin Yamaha 50hp 4-stroke outboard engines, which makes them fast, quiet and fuel-efficient. They have been especially custom-fitted for maximum comfort with a ratio of one dive guide to four divers and a maximum of eight divers per boat. Each dive boat is equipped with standard safety equipment on all trips – first aid kit, emergency oxygen, tools and anchor, as well as a padded camera crate, drinking water and towels.

Photographers are welcome to use the air-conditioned Imaging Studio -or camera room- for storage and set-up of their camera gear.

3. RESORT ACTIVITIES

The main activities at Raja 4 Divers are diving and snorkelling, the sea conditions are good year-round, with the water temperature at a constant 28-30°C (82-86°F) and visibility averaging 10-20m (32-65 ft). Water visibility in Raja Ampat generally seems a little ‘reduced’ due to large amounts of food particles present, which in turn nourish these rich reefs via tidal currents. Currents converging around a reef point tend to attract a stupendous diversity of fish schools, a phenomenon that has made Raja Ampat famous all over the world. Non-diving guests will also be able to enjoy the rich underwater world of Raja Ampat. The house reef is waiting be explored directly from the resort and close by reefs can be reached comfortably by kayak. Snorkellers are also welcomed on the boat trips for divers and our snorkelling guides will find and point out many hidden treasures of the sea.

Pulau Pef is surrounded by the world’s richest reefs, many varied habitats and a myriad of spectacular dive sites: soft corals, spectacular hard coral gardens, slopes, critter sites and mantas. The reefs of Raja Ampat are specifically referred to as ‘species factories’, replenishing other reef ecosystems by sweeping coral larvae across the Indian and Pacific Oceans via their strong currents. Raja Ampat is not just another diving destination, this is the Holy Grail for scientists and underwater photographers, proven to be the richest reefs on the planet and Pulau Pef offers the possibility to experience that fascinating variety of habitats and underwater experiences. Maybe for that it is called the mini Raja Ampat.

Kayaking at Raja 4 Divers Resort

The unique landscape and marine life of Pulau Pef offers besides diving, other countless ways to experience Raja Ampat: kayaking, snorkeling, bird watching, whale watching, exploring jungle trails, climbing hills, sun bathing, spotting dolphins, treating yourself to a cold beer at the sunset bar or else enjoying the sweet idleness and the wonderful view over the vast sea from the hammock of your private deck. Often our guests have been able to observe passing by dolphins directly from the resort sundeck!

6. BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

The island of Pef is situated 50km south of the equator, and is well within the tropical climate of the equatorial belt. There are no real seasons in Raja Ampat. Sun, wind and waves can change on a daily basis all year round. This also applies to currents and underwater visibility. Rain showers are usually short and temperatures remain warm nevertheless. Unlike many other regions of Indonesia, where the months between October and April usually bring a lot of rain, Raja Ampat does not really have a rainy season. During that time most of the liveaboards come to Raja Ampat to avoid the bad weather. From May to September, however, only guests from the local resorts dive the countless reefs of Raja Ampat. This means for you: having the dive sites all to yourself! To learn more follow the link practical information: diving season in Raja Ampat.

1. WHY KRI ECO RESORT & SORIDO BAY RESORT

Pulau Kri or Kri Island is the place in Raja Ampat where all records for marine biodiversity have been broken, the first time in 2001 when Conservation International broke their records by counting 283 different species of fish during a single dive. That single dive added 80 species to the previous record of 203. Then in April 2012 another count by Conservation International recorded 374 different fish species. Today, healthy corals and profuse marine life are the main attractions of diving in this region of Raja Ampat.

Most of the staff now working at Kri Eco Resort and Sorido Bay Resort have been “rescued” from shark finning and dynamite fishing.

Kri Eco Resort is credited with using locally sourced, low-impact building materials, making the tropical climate more bearable and allowing its guests to enjoy the incredible views of Kri Island as well as gentle sea breezes. always present in the Raja Ampat islands.

Misool is famous for its world-class diving, but if you think that is just for divers, think again. The house reef will treat snorkelers to frequent sightings of schooling horse-eyed jacks, hunting octopus, and huge schools of bumphead parrotfish. The North Lagoon is a great place to hob-nob with gentle green turtles feeding on seagrass. You’re also likely to run into baby black tip reef sharks in the shallows.

The house reef of Misool Eco Resort is a shore dive, easily accessed at any time from either the end of the jetty, from the dive centre, or the steps leading down from your water cottage and it is particularly well suited to photographers and those who enjoy observing unusual animal behavior. Some of ‘guests’ currently hosted by our resort’s house reef are massive schools of fusiliers and horse-eyed jacks, huge shoals of anchovies, large groupers, black tip reef sharks, grey reef shark, mandarin fish, flasher wrasse, and innumerable species of nudibranchs and flatworms, as well. The nighthawk Epaulette -new discovering ‘walking shark’-, is commonly seen on night dives on the house reef of Misool Eco Resort.

On the other hand the dive sites around Misool Eco Resort can offer untouched reefs festooned with massive gorgonian sea fans, wildly colorful soft corals and expansive hard coral gardens, plentiful of rich reef life because is established on a vast No-Take Zone where all fishing, cyanide fishing, bombing, shark finning, harvesting of turtle eggs and shellfish are prohibited.

Raja Ampat is an incredibly rich place to explore, both below and above the water. We offer a number of different experiences designed to bring you closer to Raja Ampat’s flora, fauna, and history: kayaking and SUP experience, birding cruise, sunset experience, lagoon experience, etc.

6. BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Papua Explorers can be visited any time of the year. The island of Gam is situated less than 50km south of the equator, and is well within the tropical climate of the equatorial belt, where the temperature is between 30-35°C and the sea is at 28-29°C throughout the year.
